ESI was retained to perform a Cause and Origin Evaluation on a fire that ensued after a fault occurred in the iso-phase ducts between the generator and the Generator Step-Up transformer in a large power plant. ESI determined the arcing fault caused hydrogen gas and oil to escape fro the generator. The arcing caused an oil-hydrogen-air mixture that ignited giving rise to the fireball visible at the end of the generator.
