Reverse engineering involves taking something apart in order to understand how it was designed and how it works. Reverse engineering may be done for a variety of reasons:
- To develop a new product that performs the same task as an existing product without exactly copying the original
- To identify weaknesses in or make improvements to an existing product
- To determine whether a product infringes a patent
ESI’s team of intellectual property experts has performed many patent infringement and invalidity analyses. This process may include reverse engineering. Our testing experience and laboratory facilities allow us to obtain difficult measurements that can prove key to an infringement analysis. We are able to build custom test equipment tailored to the product at issue and have the capacity to handle and analyze large numbers of products.
